Can’t get enough of MJ

Marc Jacobs Style.com(Love this old promo from Style.com)

Don't miss this new Marc Jacobs profile in The Observer in anticipation of Fashion Week.  It's full of goodies- old and new.

Love this quote from Lorraine Candy, Elle's editor-in-chief:

"He's a predictor, like Karl Lagerfeld was. And there's a lovely feel to his designs. I'll sit in the front row of other designers' shows and see models walking towards me in these odd shoes with their breasts hanging out, and I wonder whether they even like the women they're designing for. But you can tell that he respects them."

IMO- MJ doesn't predict the future, he informs it.

OK… now that’s hot!

Posh Victoria Beckham Hermes Pochette Kelly

Yeah, he is too... but I'm talking Vickie B's Hermes Pochette Kelly.  Does it get any cuter?  I mean, I love a big bag, but I love a little bitty bag too!

If you don't have split pea soup green as a staple color in your wardrobe (although, I'm digging it... don't get me wrong!), we've got a fabulous pre-owned brown authentic Hermes Pochette Kelly on eBay right now.

It's just stunning!  And look how little bitty it is!

 Hidesign x Louis Vuitton

I blogged about Louis Vuitton's interest in India's Hidesign in January.  But it looks like it's really happening.

From the WSJ's livemint.com:

"What did luxury powerhouse Louis Vuitton (LV) see in a (relatively) small Indian leather goods manufacturer? How did the French brand even think of setting up a factory—its first in Asia and one that will likely end up being its largest in the world—in Puducherry of all places? Why did the intensely private company buy a stake in Hidesign, an Indian company that began as a hobby in 1970s Auroville, India’s French hub?"

 Goyard Trunk BBC

First off... love the custom display trunk that Goyard cooked up for Pharell Willliams' Billionaire Boy's Club display at the new and improved Colette in Paris.  Goyard is an amazing malletier- Iconic and full of history... and the display looks incredible.

My only thought was... I wonder what the good folks over at Louis Vuitton "think".  I mean, they've given Pharell the chance to collaborate on the Louis Vuitton Blason jewelry line- and he's front and center at all the shows, etc.  Wonder if they "care" that Pharell had Goyard do the display?

I mean, there are only two real players in the custom luxury trunk business, Louis Vuitton and Goyard.  Just wondering if they'd take it as a slight?

 Hotel Pand, Bruges Belgium

Wow.  Not only is The Pand Hotel in just about the cutest town you'll find in this part of Europe (Bruges, Belgium- think cobblestone streets, cool little stone bridges & canals- cute shops and cafes... adorable!) but the owners of this little luxury hotel have quite the antique Louis Vuitton trunk and hard case collection- and they are scattered throughout the hotel.

... in bedrooms, like the one pictured above and below.

... and with stacks of suitcases in the lobby:

I love what vintage Louis Vuitton can do for a room- and it so works in this hotel.  I am writing this into my Rick Steve's Amsterdam, Bruges and Brussels guide- as a reminder. Don't want to miss it if I get the chance!

Check out The Pand Hotel website- pictures and video.  It's an amazing little hotel!

Rei Kawakubu Edith Head Edna Mode

OK, I made this image back when the Comme des Garcons X Louis Vuitton collaboration was first announced... and just never found a good place to put it (not that it really relates here- but I just can't help myself any longer!).  I still LOL whenever I think of it!  I mean, tell me this isn't how the Pixar animators came up with one of my all time favorite characters ever, the fabulous matriarch of all things fashion, Ms. Edna Mode?  A little Rei Kawakubo... a little Edith Head... and vuala, Edna Mode!

Anyway, can't get enough of the little love fest going on between Marc Jacobs and Rei in anticipation of the debut of the collaboration next Wednesday!

MJ on Rei:

"I admire and worship her and it's the kind of thing that I think is so wonderful to do at Vuitton, where it's such an iconic brand and that monogram and everything and, again, I've said all this before, but it's so wonderful to have someone so outside of that thing take their look at it, their approach to it."

Rei on Louis:

"Due to our clever coordination, I anticipate that the wall between us will disappear. . .  Funnily enough, I have never actually bought anything [at Vuitton], but I probably will buy a party bag next week. The best thing about such one-off events is the chance to arrive at something new from the meeting together of two different spirits."

Can't wait to see more!

Louis Vuitton Mandela 46664 Bread Clip

Nelso Mandela 46664 necklace Louis Vuitton

Like I mentioned earlier- we just got back from our first (and for sure not our last) trip to South Africa on Saturday, and I can't get over it.  I'm in love.

So, I was thrilled to see this longer version of the Richard Prince Bread Clip charm released in tribute to South African President, Nelson Mandela for his birthday. The number 46664 (in place of the "Since 1854" on the original clips) is the number of the jail cell that Nelson Mandela called home for 27 years.

Apparently, it's a limited edition piece.  Only 466 were released, so it is numbered 1/466 or whatever on the back.  Part of the proceeds benefit the war against HIV / AIDS.

LV Doggie Bag

 LV dog

Kanye just posted this little piece of art by Meryl Smith- a doggie bag, appropriated with the LV monogram... and I've gotta say it.  Regardless of the major yuck factor for this piece in particular, I'm so over the whole concept.

I mean, I get it.  Artists who want to make a statement "borrow" the LV marks because they are powerful and get noticed.  But it's just lazy.  It's been done to death.  (Think Nadia Plesner's Darfur shirt, Wim Delvoye's LV tatoo'd pigs, Peter Gronquist's monogram Electric Chair (and chainsaw, glocks, artillary shells & Gazelle? of all things- etc. etc).

Louis Vuitton Dog

And I don't know about you... but I think Louis Vuitton/ Marc Jacobs gets this.  So much so that maybe that's part of the reason they brought Richard Prince on board.  You know, Richard Prince... "the Man who invented Appropriation".
