 Princess Beatrice Louis Vuitton Viktor

I love how Princess Beatrice pulls off the "men's" Louis Vuitton Taiga Viktor in Grizzli as her satchel for her first day of school yesterday at London's Goldsmiths College.  (Check out the story from the Daily Mail.)

The Taiga line is still listed in the men's section of Elux (not the women's), but I've always thought it goes both ways!  Taiga is so sleek and modern.  It's a great, professional look for men and women!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

My kids are driving me NUTS watching the trailer for the soon to be released, "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" movie over and over and over again!

Luckily, it looks like this may be one of those films that isn't absolute torture for me to take them too- if only for the chance to checkout Jamie Lee Curtis and Piper Perado (etc)'s wardrobe & bags!  (In the trailers alone I've seen LV, Chanel and a brief glimpse of what appears to be a gorgie red Hermes Birkin!)

I love that rather than carry her pampered Chihuahua "Chloe" in a proper dog carrier like a Louis Vuitton Sac Chien or Baxter- JLC carries her in a Louis Vuitton Damier Hampstead!  OK, so it doesn't have the waterproof lining of the other two, it looks super cute with a little diamond necklace wearing Doggie Diva poking out!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua LV Hampstead

If love this look and you've got a potty trained pint sized pooch- this is your lucky day! We've got an authentic pre-owned Louis Vuitton Damier Hampstead MM listed on our website right now!  Be sure to check it out!

 Louis Vuitton Window Display

I thought this was an interesting article from Marketing Daily on Louis Vuitton's marketing and particularly their online focus in the last couple years.

Quote from Heather Vandenberghe, Louis Vuitton's vice president of marketing:

"Sixty percent of people who visit our Web site are going into the store after doing their research online. They walk in and know what they want. Our average purchase has gone up since the Web site [launched]."

Ironically, I'd say over 95% of the folks who buy from our "store", also research online at LouisVuitton.com. :)

 Louis Vuitton Sean Connery

The whispers are that Louis Vuitton has picked original 007, Sean Connery to glam for Annie Leibovitz’s cam in its latest "Core Values" campaign.

You remember the campaign... the one that featured Sofia and Francis Ford Coppola just a few months ago, and got major buzz from spots with Keith Richards and Mikhail Gorbachev in the past?

 Miley Tish Cyrus LV Bowly

So, Miley and her new boyfriend, Justin Gaston were spending some quality time with Miley's mom Tish at Universal Studios this weekend.

I thought it was so cute that mama Tish is wearing Miley's old Louis Vuitton Denim Patchwork Bowly for the outing!

Miley Cyrus LV Patchwork Bowly

Remember when Miley's BFF Mandy was wearing it a while back?

Again, it's possible that they all just really like this style and everyone bought one- but I like to think, like US Mag tells me... that, "Miley's just like US!" & is keeping it in the family.  I know I love to raid my sister's closet!

Preowned authentic Louis Vuitton Denim Patchwork Bowly

But, you don't have to be a FOM to wear this fabulous, discontinued bag!  We've got an authentic, pre-owned Louis Vuitton Denim Patchwork Bowly on our website right now!  Be sure to check it out!

Japan’s feeling the crunch too…

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Totally interesting article on the "slowing" luxury market in Japan:  Losing its Shine, from the Economist.  Notable quotes?

"Having been stagnant for half a decade, sales have fallen dramatically this year for many brands. Hermès, Gucci, Tiffany, Chanel and Cartier have all felt the pinch.  LVMH’s sales in Japan slid by 6% in the first six months. This year may be the first since the company’s arrival in Japan in 1978 in which its sales in the country go down."

"The Japanese market for imported luxury products—clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories—was worth ¥1.2 trillion ($10.2 billion) in 2007, a drop of 39% since 1996. As sales have fallen, the big labels’ market shares have increased: Louis Vuitton’s sales have almost tripled over the period, to ¥165 billion."

"Japan overflows with “parasite singles”—adults living with their parents—who are flush with money that would otherwise go on rent. As fewer women marry and have children, they have more cash to spend. All of this fuelled Japan’s strong demand for luxury goods. But as the population ages, there are fewer young, wealthy and fashion-mad customers."

"To support their sales, Louis Vuitton and Gucci have launched less expensive collections made with cheaper materials. Big brands are also opening stores in smaller cities, where the lure of the logo still works. The big question is whether Japan is an isolated example, or signals a broader shift in demand. Perhaps it is a bit of both."

This is just a really interesting read considering how influential Japan is

LVMH Brands Film 2008

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

I love this little film from Ogilvy.  It's a great visual of all of the LVMH brands (Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Celine, Donna Karan, Emilio Pucci, Givenchy, Kenzo, Loewe, Marc Jacobs to name a few!)But I was just noticing that we just happen to be currently selling authentic pre-owned versions of almost all of the Louis Vuitton pieces that they spotlight in the film. For example:  the Louis Vuitton Vernis HeartLouis Vuitton Vernis heartThe Manhattan PM that Catherine Deneuve's holding at the train station. And the amazing Empreinte Diamond Ring near the end.Empreinte Diamond Ring Louis VuittonI love that we have some of their favorites- and for a relative bargain!

eBay Louis Vuitton logo

So it looks like eBay isn't taking it's recent HUGE losses (against LVMH and Hermes) in Europe sitting down.

Tod Cohen, (Deputy General Counsel for eBay) has apparently asked the commissioner of Anti-trust issues in the European Union to look into some of these companies that are using tight (and arguably "anti-competitive" and  "abusive") distribution agreements to keep their products off of eBay.

Cohen contends that these companies' policies are "manipulating and controlling the markets beyond EU market rules".

Interesting quote from Neelie Kroes, European Union Competition Commissioner:

"There are a number of practices that are being used to restrict cross-border sales, which I think require a closer look.

Like I've always said, I back any companies' efforts to protect their good name and reputation.  eBay bears some responsibility in this- mainly in working closely with Trademark owners in keeping the market clean.  (They could do more- in requiring real verification for all users for starters!)  But they're doing a ton of what they can do.  What they aren't good at is combing through all of the listings for fakes.  This is where there needs to be coordination and cooperation with the Brand holders themselves.

The idea that a company can restrict my ability to resell any item that I have legitimately purchased, because they don't want it sold in an particular venue is just craziness.  I mean, so you buy a Mercedes from an authorized Mercedes dealership, and you are never allowed to resell your vehicle?  Come on!

That's what LVMH has done in France.  Let's say that I live in France and get J'Adore Dior perfume (Dior is owned by LVMH) for my birthday.  And let's just say that I'm also allergic to perfumes.  I am not allowed by LVMH or eBay since the decision earlier this year (unless Mr. Cohen's efforts prove victorious) to sell that perfume on eBay.

Let's just hope that at the very least that kind of nonsense doesn't get worse (more limitations... and more lawsuits), and at best that people will be able have full rights of resale to anything that they legally and lawfully buy with their hard earned money.

Can't these companies see how limiting resale reduces the value of their luxury brands?

Louis Vuitton v. City Chain

Louis Vuitton Cty Chain Watch

Louis Vuitton isn't kicking back in its efforts to get rid of counterfeits and knock-offs that violate their trademark.

You can see a watch above made by City Chain under its Solvil name.  And you can also see the logos that Louis Vuitton has taken issue with.

Anyway, they're battling it out now in Singapore.  Louis Vuitton claiming all the usual: their rights to the trademark, similarity in symbols, dilution of the market, the likelihood of confusion between the two, the reputation of the brand, and damage to exclusivity etc.

City Chain's claiming that they aren't using trademarked logos- just designs... and their name is clearly imprinted on each piece.  They also say that their prices are so different (low) to Louis Vuitton's as to make their customers unique (no comfusion or dilution).

Interesting stuff... read the Strait Times for more info.
