Is a Louis Vuitton Montsouris GM backpack a “man bag”?

Kanye West Louis Vuitton Montsouris MM

Occasionally, I'll get emails that I think are really interesting or would be helpful to more of my readers... so I'll post the question and response here in my blog.

Dear fashionphile,

I've had an eye on the large Montsouris GM backpack in your store.  I really want the Christopher but can't find it.  Would a gm work on a man or is it too small.  Could I get a picture of it on a guy?

He's asking about the authentic pre-owned Louis Vuitton Montsouris GM backpack on our website.  And, I hear this quite a bit, because Louis Vuitton does so many sizes of backpack...

Kanye's wearing the Monogram Montsouris GM above... and the Louis Vuitton Monogram Christopher here:

And here's Kanye again with the Louis Vuitton Monogram Montsouris GM:

Allen Iverson carries a Louis Vuitton Monogram Montsouris GM as well:

It's a great sized bag for a man or a woman!  A bit smaller than the Christopher- but plenty roomy, and big enough to look right.  Don't get me wrong...

Size matters!  Here's my tiny daughter a few years ago, when she was like 4 years old... and she's wearing LV Mini Montsouris backpack:

Remember, you don't have to be the "Louis Vuitton Don" or play professional basketball to afford authentic Louis Vuitton.  The pre-owned authentic Louis Vuitton Montsouris GM backpack on our website is priced at $649- half off the $1300 retail price from the Louis Vuitton Boutique or eLuxury.  Check it out!!!

Congratulations, Karen!

Nina Garcia Louis Vuitton Speedy

I was just perusing the pages of October's Marie Claire, when I came upon this article listing MC Fashion Director and Project Runway alum, Nina Garcia's "necessities".

She'd recently had her apartment remodeled, and so she didn't have easy access to her closet.  She'd sneak back in for bits and pieces that she just couldn't live without.  The whole experience ended up as material for her book "The One Hundred:  A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own."  (Just ordered it from Amazon!)

But I noticed, that she calls the Louis Vuitton Speedy an "investment bag".  In MC it says of the LV Speedy, "Snag icon status for yourself and future grand-daughter."

I thought this was particularly interesting, since it reminded me of something she said in an interview with Fashion Tribes, almost a year ago.

When mixing and matching your wardrobe I tend to invest in classic pieces, like trench coat, handbag-Chanel 2.5, Hermes Birkin or Louis Vuitton Speedy, Little Black Dress and more decorative accessories. When it comes to trendier pieces, I go to places like Zara and H&M and also incorporate vintage finds like colorful dresses and bohemian-esque embellished belts.  Shopping at different price points gives your wardrobe texture and personality.  You do not need to be in head to toe designer to look great.

This is just great fashion advice.  And am so with her on the look of iconic bags- classics paired up with trendier pieces.  But the reality is that, while it's clearly worth the "investment", you don't have to pay the full $675-$750 for an authentic Louis Vuitton monogram Speedy!

Piper Palin's Fake Louis

Piper, Piper, Piper... sweet girl.  Didn't your mama teach you better than to carry a fake bag?

Ask your mom to take you to Limited Too, or Claire's or any other little mall shop that caters to 7 year olds like yourself.

Of course, if you're really lucky, maybe she'll take you on one of her $150,000 trips to Saks or Neiman Marcus and you can get a nice little authentic mini something or other.

Or better yet, have Megan McCain take you shopping.  She's got great taste in bags- and only carries authentic.

You're cute, fakes aren't.

TI’s Rag’s in the Bag

TI Louis Vuitton Release Party(T.I. at his T.I. vs T.I.P. release party at LV Lenox Mall last year)

Looks like Louis Vuitton and Gucci didn't appreciate the exposure they were getting from the video for T.I.'s "Swing Ya Rag". In fact, they claimed infringment and put the kibosh on the whole thing...

The lyrics are all about "Louis" and "Gucci".  The chorus:

"Alright, okay, I don't dance, no way
I just take my Louis rag out and wave it round in the air
Take my Gucci rag out and wave it round in the air"

TI Swing Ya Rag Louis Vuitton(This is a screenshot from the making of the "Swing ya Rag" video.)

TI said about the song:

"It's self explanatory.  It's about swinging your Gucci rag or your Louis rag.  And, you know, I think I introduced that, I think I introduced that fashion trend to the world.  I do believe I was the first one, man you know what I'm saying, to tie a Gucci rag to my beltloop, man... match with your shirt... let it match with your shoes.  I do believe, if I'm not mistaken.  But. You know basically man, what we're going to with it man, we're going to represent the influence of Gucci and Louis Vuitton to the hood.  Not the influence that it has in Hollywood, we're all familiar with that.  I'm talking about the influence that Louis Vuitton and Gucci has had to the hood.  You know what I'm saying. When we wear it, how we wear it and why we wear it."

Tip (who along with Swizz Beatz produced the video) said to MTV:

"We did it, and it came out hot, Louis [Vuitton] and Gucci started trippin' about it. They were saying we were infringing, in one way or another. They weren't happy about it. They didn't want it to come out. "

So, it's not coming out.  And the blogs are ablaze about why LV lets some videos go, and others not.

All I have to say is- whether you're from the 'hood or the 'wood... we'd love to sell you some "rags"!  We've always got a great variety of pre-owned, authentic Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Gucci, Chanel- you name it scarves & bandanas.  Be sure to check it out!

 Perez Hilton Louis Vuitton Mancrazy

... and hired a stylist!

Honestly, I was thinking of doing a post in honor of Mr. Blackwell (RIP)... and I guess this is it.  That picture is a classic.  It's old school Perez Hilton- just a few months ago- in June, in front of the Ivy of all places.  He's wearing the fabulous Richard Prince for Louis Vuitton Mancrazy joke bag that he got from Us here a Fashionphile right when it was released!  And, let's just say- it's not his best look.

But, oh what a difference a couple months, a couple pounds (lost) and a stylist can make!  Here is Perez Hilton shopping at Louis Vuitton for his mom's birthday present a couple days ago.

Perez Hilton Louis Vuitton shopping

Perez is looking fantastic- all daper and put together!  We've met Perez' mom.  She came by the office and picked up the Mancrazy.  She's totally sweet, so it's nice to see Perez pampering her.  (Say what you want about Perez, but he always seems so respectul and good to his mom!)

Perez Hilton Louis Vuitton

Amazing, huh? But we would love to see the Mancrazy with his new look!

BTW:  Check out more pics from BuzzFoto.  Perez tries on a Galliera PM and seems to be debating over a Manhattan GM.  Decisions, decisions.  Wonder what mama got?

Louis Vuitton wins $3.5 Million Counterfeit Case

 Fake Louis Vuitton Bucket

WWD's reporting that Louis Vuitton won another big one.

Apparently, Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein was hoping to make a statement with his $3.5 million award in favor of Louis Vuitton.  He said, "Defendants have shown by their willfulness in obstructing this litigation and violating plaintiffs’ trademark rights that a slight damage award is unlikely to deter them from continuing their illegal business."

Hopefully this will deter Joyce Chan and Chong Lam from continuing their business selling counterfeit handbags that infringed upon Louis Vuitton’s trademarks.  But who knows.  From a Reuter's article earlier this year (at the time of their arrest), it looks like they'd benefitted to the tune of $16 million from their sales of fake Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel and Coach.
