eBay fined €1.7m in ongoing battle with LVMH

Louis Vuitton- LVMH- & eBay sure are playing a game of back and forth in French Courts over the past few years.  eBay been taking a beating.  It's now been sanctioned to the amount of €1.7m for allowing the sale of over 1000 unauthorized (but authentic) LVMH purfumes & cosmetics on the site.  They're saying that eBay breached an injunction set in place in June of 2008,  barring eBay from allowing the posting of perfumes or cosmetics in LVMH brands (LV, Dior, Kenzo, Givenchy, and Guerlain).

In response to today's eBay's general manager in France, Alex von Schirmeister said,

"Today's outcome hurts consumers by preventing them from buying and selling authentic items online. The injunction is an abuse of 'selective distribution.' It effectively enforces restrictive distribution contracts, which is anti-competitive. We believe that the higher courts will overturn this ruling and ensure that eCommerce companies such as eBay will continue to provide a platform for buyers and sellers to trade authentic goods... The fine itself is disproportionate given that eBay complied with the Injunction. It is out of step with our legal victories in France, UK, Germany, Belgium and the U.S."

I attalicized the highlighted parts in that quote myself- because they're just dead on.  I'm all for very agressive measures in doing whatever it takes to remove fakes from any an all online marketplaces (and off).  What I am totally against- are measures that are put in place that restrict the freedoms that individual owners have to do what they will with their own personal property.

I mean, if someone wants to throw a bottle of perfectly good Dior perfume that they bought themselves in the fireplace (not smart by the way)- so be it.  If they want to give it to their sister, or throw it in the bin, or pour it down the drain- or sell it on eBay- they should have that right.  Any decision that limits our ability to make those decisions- is limiting a fundemanetal personal property right.

Not only that- but the ability that we have to resell our property facilitates the inherent value of that piece.  One of the reasons that your new Mercedes, or Tiffany ring, or Breitling watch  keeps its value so well- is that the brand and quality are internationally recognizable- and resellable.  You can at any time, recoup much of your investment.  Luxury manufacturers who attempt to limit the resale potential for legitimate owners is just not smart.

What do you think???

Gucci Gives Back

Love it when people and corporations do good with the resources they've got!

It looks like Frida Giannini- creative director for Gucci and author/ illustrator Michael Roberts have collaborated together in a campaign to benefit UNICEF.  They're putting together some original pieces designed by Giannini that will be exclusively sold in Gucci boutiques and on Gucci.com.

The facinating angle is that Giannini has commissioned Michael Roberts to actually write a sequel to his popular children's book- Snowman in Paradise. This book's called Snowman in Africa and don't try Amazon for your copy- it will only be available in Gucci stores and on Gucci.com until December 31, 2009. Generous Gucci is donating every penny you spend on the book to UNICEF.

But the fun part for bag lovers is that Giannini's incorporated Roberts' illustrations on two Gucci Joy bags, some charms, and other small pieces.  You'll also find the illustrations on special gift cards.  A full 25% of the retail price of each one of these exclusive pieces will be donated to UNICEF.  Over the 5 year campaign- Gucci's promised $7 million to UNICEF.

I love that!!!  I mean talk about win- win- win!  Buy an amazing bag, and help educate, supply healthcare and clean water to kids in Africa!!!  Can't wait to get shopping!

Hope you all had a great day.  This has been another Thanksgiving- and once again- we here at Fashionphile (and myself especially) are so thankful to all of you for your continued support and loyalty!  Honestly- we love what we do- and thank you SOOOO much!  We've never done a sale like this before- but we thought it would be a perfect way to say how thankful we are for all of you.
I'm one of the suckers who LOVE Black Friday.  My family is together for Thanksgiving today- and we're making plans for tomorrow.  It took very little time to find out that we break down into two groups- the Black Friday shoppers, and the folks who start to sweat at the nightmare thought of shopping on one of the busiest retail days of the year.
So when we decided to throw this little sale- I wanted to make sure that no one will miss it!  If you hate to shop the day after Thanksgiving- then you can still take advantage of the fab deals available on our site.  But, for the crazy shoppers our there (I'm crazy too!) we all have time to hit the shops and then come home, have a leftover turkey & cranberry sandwich- and cuddle up on the couch with your laptop for little Fashionphile shopping!
Here's how it works and other fine print :)
  • It's a 24 hour Black Friday Sale.  So... this means it starts tonight at midnight Pacific time... (if you're a night owl- its your lucky day!)
  • You'll an additional 10% off all marked prices on fashionphile.com
  • Shop all day- but it's over Friday Night at midnight
  • Sorry, but sale items may not be placed on Layaway
  • Sale only applies to items bought and paid for on Nov 27th
  • Sale price not valid for items purchased prior to, or after Nov 27th
  • Regular shipping rates will apply (free FedEx Ground for US website purchases, varying rates for International.

No really- like flour, yeast, oil... Yeah.

New online mag "Flamboyant" has included various pictures of branded and otherwise odd baked goods in their "Daily Bread" section of their first issue.

We've seen this kind of Appropriation before- in candy, cakes, guns, antlers and remember the LV electric chair and LV monogram live PIGS?

Louis Vuitton Repair Facility Thief Caught

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

fedextruckvuitton

Whoa, I hadn't heard about this when it happened- and I'm sure LV didn't necessarily want it out there- but it looks like a FedEx driver was delivering $155,000 worth of authentic Louis Vuitton repair facility- when he stopped at Wendy's for a lunch break.  He apparently was torn away from his bacon double cheeseburger- by other diners telling him that three armed guys were breaking into his truck!  What's worse- they got away with all the stuff.

I can't imagine the nightmare this must have been for FedEx, Louis Vuitton and the poor LV loyalists who had their bags stolen!!!

Anyway... apparently the cops got a tip that a Glendora woman was selling stolen Louis Vuitton bags in purse parties from her apartment!  When the police dropped in, they found about $20,000 of the LV stuff (wow, she'd already sold most of it :( ) but they also found stolen Juicy Couture, Coach, Dooney & Bourke, Express, Tommy Hilfiger, Frederick's of Hollywood, North Face, Guess, True Religion and Abercrombie & Fitch.  It looked like most had been stolen from trucks & stores etc.

Here's the story from KCAL- be sure to watch the video.  So sad.

Now this gets me into the Christmas Spirit!

louisvuittonchristmastrunk

Oh wow!  Louis Vuitton Lover just posted this amazing Louis Vuitton Christmas Chest.   It's a special ornament trunk- and I'm just dying over it!

This one's got me picturing little elves in the Louis Vuitton Workshop in Asnieres hammering away at each brass nail- working their hardest to get it done in time for Christmas- (cue your favorite Carol now!)  Anyway- apparently there were only five of these things made.  Wonder who's been nice this year?

Leica M7 Film Camera – Hermes Edition

Friday, November 20th, 2009

As much as I love my digital Nikon D90, I cannot get over how unbelievably gorgeous this beautiful piece of luxury gadgetry is. This new Leica M7 Film Camera Hermes edition comes out this December, a perfect stocking stuffer if your normal stocking stuffers are around $14,000. If you don't think it's worth it, here's what you'd be missing out on via Gizmodo.

This very special limited edition of the M7 35mm camera comes in silver chrome with calfskin leather accents in two colors, orange and the mysteriously named "etoupe". The M7 includes a Leica SUMMILUX-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH. wide-angle lens, lens hood, LEICAVIT M winder and a matching carrying case. There aren't too many changes from the original M7, just a few cosmetic things mostly so the original styling doesn't clash with your new baby cow skin leather.

C’mon now, Costco- LV & Chanel?

costcolvchanel

I've got to admit- I love Costco as much as the next mom- but I don't know what to say about this.  I've heard rumors over the years that different Costcos have stocked various luxury handbags that I had some serious doubts about authenticity-wise.  I mean, some brands just don't wholesale or discount at all- ever... and so to see those brands at a Wholesaler like Costco just made me either doubt the bag's origin (and authenticity)- or the story of the person sharing it.

Well, now... word is out- and pictures from Bloomberg/Getty Images to match... from the New York City opening of the first Costco in the City- East 116th Street... and the Chanel and Louis Vuitton handbags that they seem to be selling at a discount.  They apparently have the Chanel Classic Flap (for $1999), have sold out of the Louis Vuitton Speedy.  Now, as we all know- these brands don't Wholesale.  And Louis Vuitton doesn't discount- ever.

So hmmm.  I mean, I guess, there's a possibility that for publicity, as kind of a luxury, designer "loss leader" to bring in Fashionphiles across the City- Costco purchased some amazing authentic luxury handbags directly boutiques- and are selling those bags for less than what it cost them- as a crazy, cool marketing tactic.  And then there's the other possibility... the bags are from a questionable source and ya know what that means.

I'd LOVE to know if any of my Fashionphile readers here have been to this Costco, and have checked out these bags!  Let us know!

Katy Perry Louis Vuitton Amarante Pegase

I totally love Katy's selection in travel bags.  Her Louis Vuitton Amarante Pegase is great choice!  It's such a fine looking piece, I wouldn't even want anyone else to carry it for me... but looks like Katy's beau- funny man Russell Brand is giving her a hand!

I've always been a huge fan of about anything in Louis Vuitton's Amarante Vernis.  If you've never seen it "in real life" it's an amazing color.  It looks almost black when you carry it indoors- but in the sun- or with flash bulbs popping- you can see the gorgeous almost raisin colored tones.  Love the Sparkle and it's dark enough that you don't have to be as careful with it as you do lighter when carrying lighter color vernis.

If you're having a hankering for a little something in Amarante for yourself, but don't want to pay full retail- be sure to check out Fashionphile's Louis Vuitton amarante vernis selection first!  Be sure not to miss the amazing pre-owned authentic Amarante Vernis Vanity Case that we've got currently listed.
