Bette Midler’s Grande Entrance…

Bette Midler Louis Vuitton Trunks Entrance
(Laura Rauch for The New York Times)

Talk about making an entrance!  For her new $10 million show, The Showgirl Must Go On in Caesar’s Palace (Las Vegas) Divine Miss M rises from under the stage on this fabulous collection of Louis Vuitton trunks and other luggage.

If you haven’t seen it yet- there’s still time.  She’ll be there for two years- at around 100 performances a year!

I saw someone boarding my plane yesterday with probably as much LV. Just kidding but she had a LV roll-on suitcase, a tote bag (I’m guessing it was a small Keepall but I didn’t get a good look at it) and a Monogram Rubis Salina MM purse.

    Must be nice!

I carry-on Louis Vuitton luggage… but I still don’t get how people can check it, if they don’t have a cover for it. My check in luggage gets torn apart, and we get luggage on consignment all the time that’s been through the ringer. That just really stinks when you spent $2800 on it! We have a huge set of damier hard cases that we’ll be listing soon- and each piece has a cover that alone costs more than most decent luggage! Sarah

Carrying on your LV–or any suitcase–is getting harder to do (supposedly) since the airlines limit you to one carry on and one personal item (purse, backpack, briefcase, etc.) but it’s a rule that’s not well-enforced; however that may change. I just answered a NYTimes reporter query on that subject. I may hear back from her.

You could gate check a carry-on bag, which means you leave it at the end of the jetway and it gets carried by hand into the cargo hold rather than traveling on the luggage ramp. But that means letting it go :-)

Now, United & USAirways charge you if you check 2 bags: 1st bag free but the 2nd bag will cost you $25 to check. I expect the other airlines to pick that practice up.
