Louis Vuitton Date Code Explanation Guide

Louis Vuitton Date Code explanation buying guide

I'm slowly but surely updating all of my buying guides.

My free Louis Vuitton buying guides were all on eBay originally. I wrote them when the "Reviews & Guides" first came about. But there was a limit to 10 tiny pictures and only like 2500 words a guide- which was a huge limitation in what I'm writing on... So I have been one by one updating all of my guides here on my website.

I just re-did my Louis Vuitton Date Code Explanation Guide. It's much more helpful, with big, clear pictures, updated information, and including recent changes. I hope you find it helpful. Go ahead- bookmark it and use it as a reference.

I updated my Louis Vuitton Epi Information Guide, and my Louis Vuitton Vernis Information Guide in Fall of 2007- and am adding more info now. The rest of my guides are getting a total overhaul, and I'll announce them one by one as they are "done". (They'll all continually need updating- but the initial overhaul takes the most work!)

Does LV had MD as country code?

  2. FASHIONPHILE says:

No. I have never seen MD used by Louis Vuitton in a date code.

Could you tell me if SD192 is an authentic date code on a petit Noe handbag…..thanks for your help!

  4. FASHIONPHILE says:

Jeanie… are you sure there isn’t another number after the 2? There should be one.

    Sarah

  5. Rebecca says:

I have one is AR3008, is fake?

  6. FASHIONPHILE says:

    Rebecca,

The problem is that you need to know a lot more about a bag than its date code alone. All of the “better” fakes have date codes that make perfect sense now days. You have to be really careful. Send some pictures over and I’d be happy to take a look…

    Sarah

  7. yim says:

    err…..

Actaully the numbers on position 1 and 3 refer to weeks of the year between 01-52

  8. admin says:

Yim… you’re totally right that they do now- but this wasn’t the case from the 80’s through 2007. If you’ll check my guides you can see the history of the date code. I do explain the change to the week per year code structure in the guide. Thanks! Sarah

I was wondering is all the multicolor Audra date code start from TH or SP?

  10. Rhonda says:

Hi I was wanting to know on a vintage louis vuitton trocadero the datecode is 862 but where should it be located? Thanks

  11. admin says:

    Rhonda,

It’s in the main compartment of the bag- the side where the zipper sits when open… near the top of the side seam.

    Hope that helps!

    Sarah

  12. Amy says:

My husband just bought me a LV Totally pm bag at a LV store in NJ and I cannot find the date code in this bag. Is LV starting to make them with out date codes?

  13. admin says:

Amy, if he bought it at a boutique, you can safely say it’s authentic. There is a date code in it… you just need to find it! It isn’t inside the bag part- but in the outside flat pockets near the seam. Take a look… it’s on a vachetta leather tab. Hope that helps!!! Sarah

  14. Arlene says:

Thanks, I found it in outside pocket seam.

I have a louis vuitton backpack that i would like to verify if it is authentic I have read all the “how to’s” and I have a code on the backpack of TH 1906, are you able to verify for me please?

  17. admin says:

    Belinda,

Nothing wrong with that date code- although the more expensive fakes all come with date codes that make sense now, and have for years now.

    Sarah

  18. admin says:

Yes. Date codes are not unique except being unique to the same date and factory they were manufactured.

  19. Jennifer says:

Looking at Horizontal Batignolles date code SD2068, looks authenticate I own two purchased from LV store and know a little about authenticity, but not 100% sure.
