Big Surprise, Apple Monograms a Case for This Year’s Gadget… the iPad

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

I don't know if it's because the wound is still too open from Apple's recent stomping on its once most trusted fan and ally, the little guy, but I have to admit I am not a fan of this case. That almost seems impossible to imagine seeing that this is coming from an avid mac user since 2002. I am on my 4th mac computer, I have gone through 4 iPods, I'm on my second iPhone, and yes I snagged the iPad, which I love. What can I say... I'm an early adopter techno geek. What I don't love is Louis Vuitton's continual exploitation of the fleeting technological devices, whose size, function, style, and capabilities change just as often as they possibly can. I get it. I recognize that each year when that new gizmo comes out, the previous one that has completely satisfied me till the very second I became aware of the new one has utterly become obsolete. It becomes a burden to even look at. These guys bank it big time on maximizing our techno needs.

When I think of Louis Vuitton, I think of a brand that produces timeless pieces of designer luxury that transcend these concepts of fads. I think of classic photoshoots of Audrey Hepburn and her speedy. I think of Twiggy and her papillon. Those images could just as easily be used today and no one would suspect it from being old. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about here are just some of the cases that Louis Vuitton has created over the years, whose longevity lasted almost as long as the devices they protected:

Louis Vuitton Le Fabuleux: “The Fabulous One”

Louis Vuitton Le Fabuleux bag

There was an article yesterday in the San Francisco Chronicle on Louis Vuitton's workshop in Asnieres, France.  It had a couple of cool pics, including the one above- which reminded me of the fabulousness of the "Le Fab"- "Le Fabuleux.  (In English?  "The Fabulous One"!)

Jessica Alba Carmen Electra Le Fab

It's a nice, large, easy to use bag- and a great looking shoulder bag.  Suhali leather is not only durable, but it's easy to keep clean and new looking!

If you're interested in a authentic Louis Vuitton Le Fabuleux, you can pick one up at your local Louis Vuitton boutique or on Eluxury right now for $4360.  But, why pay full retail?  We have an authentic white (like Carmen Electra's above), pre-owned Louis Vuitton Suhali Le Fabuleux on our website right now- for almost 50% or $2000 off!  Be sure to check it out!

 Margherita Missoni Louis Vuitton Limelight

What a gorgie picture?  Margherita Missoni- heiress of the Missoni knitwear family, on a yacht in Cannes.  Love the Louis Vuitton Limelight with her amazing beaded dress.

Great article on her and her fashion inspiration and must haves in the LA Times.  Check it out.

Not your typical $30,000 trunk!

Friday, February 29th, 2008

We deal in authentic pre-owned Louis Vuitton trunks... you know- the fabulous vintage variety.

Well, apparently $30,000 in luxury bags were found in a different kind of trunk:  the trunk of a Cadillac.  It seems that cops had been doing surveillance on a route used by suspected drug smugglers.  After a routine traffic violation, the police found three men in the Caddie.  Long story- short, the cops checked the vehicle and found 35 Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and other luxury bags retailing at between $600 and $3000. They are currently being authenticated.

Hmmm, it's hard to say at this point- but Drug Smugglers do tend to like to flaunt their success with luxury labels paid for in cash that they need to launder. This could actually be a police auction that's worth going to! Read the story here.

Did you know? Louis Vuitton’s Trompe L’oeil

Chloe Sevigny Louis Vuitton Trompe Trocadero

You've probably seen Louis Vuitton's Trompe L'oeil line before (that's Chloë Sevigny above wearing the LV Trompe Trocadero). But did you know where it got it's name?

Some of you know that Ben (my bro-in-law and partner here) speaks fluent French. He lived in Paris for a couple of years, and this comes in really handy around the office! Apparently Trompe L'oeil in French means- a trick of the eye.

This is actually an age old technique where realistic imagery creates the optical illusion that a two dimensional piece of art or architecture contains 3D elements that do not really exist.

For example: We went skiing in Garmish, Germany and there were MANY houses that were quite plain- but they had elements painted on them that made the architecture look more interesting than it was:

(these were just square windows- no borders or treatments at all... but with trompe l'oeil)

Take a look at this fabulous example from Andrea Pozzo... a late 1600's painter. Here is the ceiling that he painted for the Jesuit Church in Vienna:

(The illusory effect of Trompe L'oeil makes this only slightly coved ceiling appear totally domed!)

This technique is just brilliant and so fun to see! Louis Vuitton uses these elements in the Trompe line... they have details that make the bags look like they have features that are purely design.

Why not own your own bit of Trompe L'oeil art?

Trompe L'oeil Pochette Louis Vuitton

We here at FASHIONPHILE have a fabulous little authentic pre-owned Louis Vuitton Trompe L'oeil Pochette listed right now on eBay! It's discontinued... and was a limited edition piece, so you can't find it in the boutique anymore! Come take a look!

You’re welcome, LVMH :)

Yes, why not? I mean, after all- we're the ones paying the always reliable price increases. So basically, I'm personally taking some credit for the 8%, or $3 Billion (yep- 9 zeros!) profit last year.

Don't have time to read the article from Bloomberg? Here are the "cliffsnotes":

  1. profit rose 8 percent last year
  2. LVMH Chairman Bernard Arnault forecasts a ``tangible increase'' in results this year
  3. "Spending on luxury goods will double to 300 billion euros in five years"

Fascinating quote:

"Never Full bags, which cost up to $655 and can be turned inside-out, helped to stimulate sales in Japan, the source of about 15 percent of revenue. They contributed to an 8 percent gain in sales to 5.63 billion at LVMH's fashion and leather- goods division, its main unit, after sluggish Japanese demand weighed on sales across the industry last year."

Macaroons anyone?

Love this clip from the Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton film... have you seen it?

What'cha think?

Rose McGowan’s Loving Her Louis Vuitton Epi Soufflot(s)!

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Rose McGowan Louis Vuitton Soufflot

Yep, she's clearly loving it! I do this with shirts... If I like the look and the way that it fits, then I'll buy the black, the brown and the white. But I've never done it with bags. Do you?

It's interesting, because she takes the Louis Vuitton Epi Soufflot: a relatively conservative bag- and just really makes it scorch! Exhibit A:

Rose McGowan red epi Louis Vuitton Soufflot

(Fab pic from Just Jared)

I also find it quite hilarious, because she loves the bag- but is clueless about what it's called.  In an interview with Stylehive during F/W 2008 New York Fashion Week, she was asked what her "fashion essentials" were.  Her answer?

"Well I have about eight I don’t know what they’re called, I call them “the log.” The Louis Vuitton bag that looks like a log with straps."

The Log!  I love it!  If you're loving Rose's look... you can always buy the $1180 Soufflot on Eluxury right now. Or you could pick up a great deal on the authentic, pre-owned red epi Louis Vuitton Soufflot that we have listed right now on eBay! It's a relative bargain for a fantastic bag.
