I want my Teddy!
Tuesday, September 9th, 2008
I thought I’d grown out of the whole Teddy Bear thing. But I guess I’m regressing!
So, that’s my 2 year old gleefully clutching her teddy- with a little more enthusiasm about carrying her special bear than the serene Matthew Goode playing Sebastian Flyte in the new film adaptation of Bridehead’s Revisited coming out this October …
Which reminded me of Marc Jacob’s comments at the 2005 Men’s Spring show. Remember? He was totally inspired by the old British series and you could see it in not only the clothes (& PJs!) but teddies, teddies everywhere!

And remember all the Teddy Bear pins? I actually was just flicking through the slideshow at Style.com and played a little “Where’s Waldo” game with my 2 year old and the Teddy Bear pins. Can you find them?

Anyway. So new Brideshead Revisited, new cool luxury bears! I’m sure you saw the amazing Steiff X Karl Lagerfeld bear! It was just released only days ago $1500 from Neiman Marcus- sold out and backlisted already. There were only to be 2500 made, so if you don’t have yours already, I can’t imagine the price they’ll fetch when they turn up on eBay. (And they will turn up on eBay). ((No, we don’t have one! Unless you want us to help you sell yours
))

Love this quote from Karl to W Magazine:
“Nothing scares me more than people with some doll collection. Frightening… Maybe I had one; I don’t remember. I never played with anything like toys. I wanted to be grown-up.”

Which reminded me of the most expensive Teddy Bear ever sold. Also a Steiff… styled by Louis Vuitton that sold on auction at Christie’s for the M.A.P. charity- and went for a lot more than $1500. Korean (apparent serious teddy bear lover- arctophiles they’re called!), Jessie Kim bought it for more than $190,000 at Christie’s “Teddies de l’An 2000″ auction in Monaco in 1994! It’s on display at his Teddy Bear Museum in Korea today!

So what do you think? Do you need a Luxe Teddy?
