Can’t get enough of MJ

Marc Jacobs Style.com(Love this old promo from Style.com)

Don’t miss this new Marc Jacobs profile in The Observer in anticipation of Fashion Week.  It’s full of goodies- old and new.

Love this quote from Lorraine Candy, Elle’s editor-in-chief:

“He’s a predictor, like Karl Lagerfeld was. And there’s a lovely feel to his designs. I’ll sit in the front row of other designers’ shows and see models walking towards me in these odd shoes with their breasts hanging out, and I wonder whether they even like the women they’re designing for. But you can tell that he respects them.”

IMO- MJ doesn’t predict the future, he informs it.

Marc Jacobs on Stephen Sprouse for Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton Stephen Sprouse Graffiti

Marc Jacobs spoke to the London’s Central Saint Martins College this week and gave some really great insights to his fabulous life.  I thought this little snippet on his Louis Vuitton /Stephen Sprouse collabration from WWD was particularly interesting:

“I don’t understand corporate people — I always say the design team’s on the second floor and the corporate people are on the fifth floor, and it might as well be the distance between here and Mars,” said Jacobs, relating the difficulties of getting his Stephen Sprouse monogram collection for Louis Vuitton in spring 2001 into production, after Vuitton’s management team at the time was reluctant to endorse the reworked logo. “The press reaction to all that graffiti was so amazing…[but] they bitched and moaned, [saying] ‘we’re not going to do it’. I just couldn’t believe it…at the time, that’s how narrow minded they were…[but] $300 million later, they think it’s a good idea!”

Ouch! NY Mag v. NYT & MJ…

Marc Jacobs Tongue Out

Wow… you gotta read this in New York Magazine’s Fashion Section, the Cut.  It’s an unbelievable, no holds barred, aim for the jugular review of the T-Style spread that the New York Times did on Marc Jacbos.

A few lowlights:

“Marc Jacobs has been hovering near the overexposed danger zone for some time. Thanks to the spread T:Style devoted to him and French actress Elodie Bouchez clad almost entirely in stuff designed by him, he’s finally crossed over”

On NYT’s quote “everyone seems to neglect his work at Louis Vuitton and for his own label”-

“Really? We were pretty sure no one’s been able to stop talking about it and magazines have been continuously saturated with it, but hey, it’s not like we read this stuff all day or anything.”

Then they proceed to comment on each of the pictures in the spread.  It’s a totally interesting read- in that, “ouch, that really hurts- but I kind of like it” way.   Just go read it and see what I mean.

Times with Marc Jacobs…

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

Marc Jacobs Elodie Bouchez Louis Vuitton Mancrazy
(Marc & Elodie with the Richard Prince for Louis Vuitton Mancrazy)

The New York Times has done a special in their Fashion- “Styled to a T” section with our very own Marc Jacobs and fabulous french actress and four month pregnant Élodie Bouchez. Maciek Kobielski took the pictures and I think you’ll agree- they’re amazing!

It’s a great little piece where Marc gives Élodie a “Stork Club” makeover in some amazing Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs bags and clothes. Quite frankly, I love seeing pics of Marc Jacobs “modeling”- he’s always such a ham!

Looks like Marc’s picking out of Richard Prince’s bag of tricks with the RP Nurse Hat

It’s a great layout. Be sure not to miss it!

So, word is that Marc Jacobs and Jason Preston broke up (again).

I mean, I can’t blame him- but you know Jason’s gonna miss the perks.

(Insert your own snarky comment here, that picture speaks for itself IMO!)

What I’m going to miss are the fun LV pictures on Jason’s My Space page!

(All the pictures above were from Jason’s page)

(If you’re a voyeur- Marc Jacobs always has some cool pictures on his My Space profile too… who ever said that Marc wasn’t web savvy?)

Marc Jacobs Pays for “Plagairized” Scarf

Marc Jacobs Plagiarized Scarf Linsell

Well… you read the story before. It looks like 55 year old Swede, Göran Olofsson, has been paid in compensation for the scarf that Marc Jacobs “plagairized”. The scarf had been designed and created by Olofsson’s father in the 1950s, and MJ’s scarf was pretty much an exact copy. Göran apparently wrote Jacobs a couple emails inquiring about the scarf. Looks like they’ve come to an agreement:

“Olofsson said he would prefer not to reveal the “cash amount” promised to him after he had written a number of emails to the celebrity designer demanding an explanation. ‘We have reached an agreement. It all took quite a long time but I am happy with how it has worked out.’”

I’ll bet he is!  I’m just wondering exactly how happy!

You can read more about it here and here. You’d think that MJ would be more sensitive about the whole “counterfeit issue”…

Marc Jacobs Tongue Out

I love it! After all the brouhaha about MJ being a couple hours late to the Spring 2008 Louis Vuitton Paris show… and did he or did he not stick his tongue out at International Herald Tribune’s Suzy Menkes…

Marc had them “racing to their seats at the Louvre museum” as he started his Paris F/W 2008 Louis Vuitton show early! Love it!

Marc Jacobs doing the “Knocking-off”?

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

I mean, what can he say to this one? The man on the right is Göran Olofsson. He grew up in the village of Linsell, Sweden where his father, Gösta ran the village gas station. Apparently, his dad was as much artist as businessman- and produced all types of touristy knick-knacks based on his own paintings- to sell from his shop! What a great story (you can read more about it HERE).

Apparently, he had about 1,000 of these scarves printed out sometime in the 1950’s. It bears the name of the village, “Linsell” on the top- and is full of images from the area- the charming little church and local symbols- (including the coat of arms, the two bears and pasque flowers) of the county (Härjedalen).

Anyway, so Göran somehow stumbles upon MJ’s scarf- and is obviously recognized it. I mean- it’s pretty much an exact replica- except that instead of the village name- the scarf says “Marc Jacobs Since 1984″. (Although, I like the border on the original much more). Wow. Very embarrassing- and pretty ironic, if you ask me! (Especially since Louis Vuitton had to apologize for a similar snaffu with the naked ladies just a couple months ago… I blogged about it HERE if you’re interested).

So, apparently Göran has written Marc for an explanation. I can’t wait to hear it!
