Wear What She’s Wearing: Nikky Hilton’s Murakami Neverfull GM

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

I was thinking about how Takashi Murakami must have seen the Louis Vuitton Neverfull as a canvas that just needed to be painted! It’s a great frame for those distinctive Hands!

Nicky Hilton looks fantastic with hers. I love how it complements her jacket- and really brings the outfit together.

For those of you who haven’t been able to attend the Murakami Exhibit at LA’s MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art)… this bag’s for you! As you know, they have been sold out in the GM size- and the exhibit is closing in a little over a week.

If you’re loving Nicky’s look- we’ve got an authentic Louis Vuitton Murakami Neverfull GM on eBay right now.  Free shipping for my blog readers on this one! Just enter coupon code: 22blog

Louis Vuitton settles with Burlington…

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Well it looks like Louis Vuitton settled it’s case against Burlington Coat Factory, and a small handful of handbag suppliers.

Here are the bags in question:

Louis Vuitton took issue with these bags, asserting that they infringed on their intellectual properties.  Vuitton was particularly interested in the obvious copy of it’s famous Takashi Murakami Multicolore Monogram and the historical S-Lock closure.

I can’t tell the actual terms of the settlement from the Press Release other than to say that Burlington et. al is prohibited from:

manufacturing, importing, exporting, promoting, advertising, marketing, distributing, displaying, selling or offering to sell

… any infringing item, and is enjoined from:

reproducing, copying, infringing or counterfeiting Louis Vuitton intellectual properties in connection with manufacturing, promoting, advertising, distributing, displaying, selling or offering to sell any unauthorized goods or services

I love the closing remarks from Nathalie Moulle-Berteaux, Intellectual Property Director of LVMH Fashion Group (representative of both Louis Vuitton and MJ):

This case was a particularly important one in that it involved some of our most famous trademarks the Multicolore Monogram and the S-Lock closure — and the products in question included both exact copies and infringing look-alike bags. We will continue our relentless fight to protect our brands throughout the world, by vigorously pursuing those who engage in any and all forms of infringing or counterfeiting activity.

Multicolore Mutsuya…

Monday, December 10th, 2007

No, it’s not a newly released Louis Vuitton Multicolore piece… it’s the Matsuya Department Store in the fabulous Ginza shopping district!

I love it! Matsuya has been given an Extreme Makeover! It now bears the vibrant hued fleurs, quatrefoils and famous LV logo of a Takashi Murakami for Louis Vuitton Multicolore Hard Case. Note the “brass” corners, and “S-lock” closure! It’s all lit up, and apparently- it changes colors every half hour!

Louis Vuitton “Pop-up” Store- it’s true!

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Wow! This is totally not going to shup up the nay-sayers who are backing Dana Thomas’ claim that Louis Vuitton is the McDonalds of Luxury brands (in her recent book, Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster.) Louis Vuitton has opened a little “Pop-up” shop right in the middle of LA’s Museum of Contemporary Art.

(I blogged about the @Murakami exhibit there a few weeks ago. It’s running from TODAY until February 11.)

The bizarre thing is that Louis Vuitton is opening this little shop- and it will run totally autonomously (kind of like the little mini-boutiques in Saks or Neimans). They’ll be selling a whole smattering of limited-edition Murakami designed pieces, esspecially for this exhibit! The prices will range from $875-$960 with not a red cent going to the museum. I know, I know, I know… we’ll be there FOR SURE!

Anyway, this is very un-museumish to do something so downright commercial… But apparently, that’s the whole point! The guy who has organized this entire exhibit is Paul Schimmel. He seems to really “get” Takashi Murakami!

With the intention of emphasizing Murakami’s “Superflat” ideas- the highly commercial nature of art in it’s high and low forms- Schimmel decided to allow LV to open up shop. His rational is that providing people the opportunity to actually buy bags in the middle of the otherwise fairly non-commercial, sterile and unattainable environment of the museum just smacked of Superflat!

Here’s a cool interview with Murakami if you’re interested in more about his philosophy & art:

What Marc Jacobs has to say about Takashi Murakami…

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Even if you are brand new to Louis Vuitton, you can’t help but to have seen the amazing results of the collaboration between Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Takashi Murakami… to name a few:

The Monogram Multicolore line-

The Cherry Blossom line-

And the Cerises Line-

Well, apparently LA’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) is featuring a Murakami Exhibition, “© MURAKAMI”, from October 29 through February 11. The exhibition will display 90 of his works in a variety of media.

They got MJ to do a little video introduction… take a peek!
