Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton

Do you remember reading that?

I mean, this one’s right on the heels of ’s / , as well as the announcement of the mash-up they’re doing with shoes & .

But it looks like will be their latest partner.  WWD is reporting that is working with Sofia on a line of shoes and bags.  Her stuff will launch in , but will be available worldwide.

There’s no doubt that loves her.  She’s famously regarded as his muse.  I love this Marc Jacobs quote about her:

“She is young and sweet and beautiful… the epitome of this girl I fantasize of.”

We’ll see.

Louis Vuitton Comme des Garcons Display

OK, I know, I know… the goal for the look of the new X pop-up shop was “understated”- but the bag wall displays take the concept to the extreme.  Interesting that bags are “displayed” in such a way that you can see just about as little of the bag as possible.  (Usually, the opposite effect that you’d aim for in a “”)

Moderation on the Collaborations…

 Comme Des Garcons Collaboration

So apparently, had “no creative input” into the LV X ” (unlike his experience with Murakami/ Richard Prince, etc)… which he was totally fine with.

But what I found most interesting from the WWD article on the subject, was what MJ had to say about future collaborations.  It seems that he’s done with the whole after concept-(even if the suits on the fifth floor are gunning for it.  Loved his quote on slowing down:

“I’ve kind of warned everybody up there that I think they’ve gotten a little too into this idea which, I mean, is great, I’m glad that everybody gets behind it, but what they don’t realize is that I do it at a pace that maintains the brand’s integrity and seems really right, and I think that sometimes everybody loves a good idea so much that they kind of go too far and it kind of kills it.”

My mother always told me, “a good artist knows when to quit.”  Or in this case, maybe slow down?

I totally agree.  Collaborations are supposed to be fun, and suprising and new.  But too many too soon, just gets boring, monotonous and rushed.

Last one for now…

Friday, July 11th, 2008

At least until they come out or I see someone interesting carrying on…  I was asked to post some unwatermarked pictures for Polyvore.  I’ve never used it before- but apparently I’ve got some blog readers who love it… (BTW- I’d love it if you’d send me a link when you’re done!)

OK.  So here they are.  Rei promised us two re-issues.

1.  We’ve got the LV X Danube/ Petit Marceau- almost identical but slightly larger than the old PM.

Louis Vuitton Comme des Garcons Danube

2.  And the new LV X Amazone… again, so similar to the vintage Amazone- the newer  Sac 2 Poches pictured in my last post.

Louis Vuitton Comme des Garcons AMazone

I mean, check out the hardware!  The leather pull tabs look identical to vintage tags and the actual pull almost looks like an old Eclair pull…

She also said she’d do- Two Icons.

1.  The Spidified Mini HL.  Those handles are really thin.  The part that holds them to the hardware is only a couple stitches.  It looks to me, like you’d jut hold this by the top set of handles– if you were to actually use it (and not just keep it as a collectable).

2.  The Charmed 30.

I’d have to fight my daughters for the “charms”… (a bunny on the left, a teddy bear on the right- and a… Teletubby in the midde)

And finally- she said she’d create two original “party bags”… (original is debatable, since they look mighty familiar to me- but it makes sense that for a in in honor of the 30th anniversary of in - would reached heavily into the past 30 years at for her inspiration for all six of her designs).

1.  I like to call this one the Hybrid Looping/ Musette… cause it’s got a looping inspired strap and a narrow flapless musette body.

2.  And the hybrid Looping/ bigger Secret… cause it’s just a little bitty simple bag like the old Pochette Secret

Sure- they’ve all got a unique, twist, but I actually really like the Re-issues and the .  Too bad they’ll only be available in the X temporary !

Rei’s Bringing back Old School Louis Vuitton

Friday, July 11th, 2008

I mean, let’s face it… she’s from the Karl Lagerfeld camp- and has been around, like forever!  So, it makes sense to me that Rei Kawakubo‘d have some nostalgia for some tried and true 1980’s vintage staples.  I’m seeing that a lot in her Comme De Garcon’s x pieces.

The Amazone- or revamp of the Sac 2 Poches pictured below, the Danube- the newer Petit Marceau, the Pochette Secret (and Mini Poche along with other bitty bags) along with the Pap 30 and Mini HL.  That’s what it looks like to me anyway… what do you think?

Here is the fruit of the :

My thoughts on the WWD X CDG X LV

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Louis Vuitton CDG WWD Magazine

OK… so we’re all waiting for the () X , right?  Six bags.  Two based on re-issues… two based on icons, and two at Rei’s pleasure.

And then WWD comes up with the little preview above.  And I’m just wondering about a few things.

#1.  The in the picture is the Mini , Sac HL.  It’s a small bag.  No, it’s a super tiny bag.  We once had one of these returned to us back in the day, because she thought it was small, not “miniature”.  Here’s a picture:

Louis Vuitton Mini Speedy Sac HL

So I’m wondering how the heck all those straps work?  Do they move independent of each other?  Would they fit on a teeny, tiny, miniature ?  I mean, there’s a possibility that the canvas has been super-sized, in which case this is really a 25 with a huge ?  Does not look like it to me.

#2.  The Amazone and don’t look like they’ve changed at all.  OK, so the Pap has some super cute Teddy Bear charms dangling from the strap, but they look removeable, like key rings.  I don’t see anything variances between the Amazone above and ’s vintage Amazone.  Here’s a picture (thanks to Jennifer for letting me us it!)

Vintage Louis Vuitton Amazone

#3.  The last bag looks like a skinny Musette Tango with a long Looping style strap.  Hmm… not feeling it.

Louis Vuitton Musette Tango

So anyway, is it possible that the WWD pictures are hypothetical?   Like some inhouse graphic desigher’s photoshop fun illustrating the ?  Or are these for sure, Rei’s designs?

I guess only time will tell!  What do you think?

Louis Vuitton X Kanye West Collaboration

Kanye West Monogram Pochette Belt

(Kanye at ’s Menswear Spring/Summer ‘08-09, Paris Fashion Weeek last Friday)

Well, we heard the rumors back in early April- and so many people doubted… but it looks like he got it done.  WWD’s scooping that Kanye’s inked a deal with to work together on a line of men’s shoes.  He and Pharrell et al have taken this nerd look to a whole new level.  (Basically, think anything Weird Al would don in one of my favorite videos of all time… If you haven’t seen this video, check it out below. It’s a classic and a must!)

I’m really interested in what he’s gonna come up with, aren’t you?

Louis Vuitton/ Kanye West Collaboration

Kanye West, Louis Vuitton collaboration
(credit: deadstockdon.com blog)

I’d heard rumors. Deadstockdon’s blog is titled,

“LV x KW!!! The Deal is Done… Stay Tuned…”

and it includes the picture above.

I can’t tell whether DSD is Don C’s blog or Kanye’s. Kanye has it on his KanyeUniversecity blogroll. (Great pics on both blogs of the Murakami Brooklyn Ball and preview etc. They’re totally worth a look!)

What do you think?
BTW, Kanye… nice LV MC !
