Nina’s Necessities

Nina Garcia Louis Vuitton Speedy

I was just perusing the pages of October’s Marie Claire, when I came upon this article listing MC Fashion Director and Project Runway alum, Nina Garcia’s “necessities”.

She’d recently had her apartment remodeled, and so she didn’t have easy access to her closet.  She’d sneak back in for bits and pieces that she just couldn’t live without.  The whole experience ended up as material for her book “The One Hundred:  A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own.“  (Just ordered it from Amazon!)

But I noticed, that she calls the Louis Vuitton Speedy an “investment bag”.  In MC it says of the LV Speedy, “Snag icon status for yourself and future grand-daughter.”

I thought this was particularly interesting, since it reminded me of something she said in an interview with Fashion Tribes, almost a year ago.

When mixing and matching your wardrobe I tend to invest in classic pieces, like trench coat, handbag-Chanel 2.5, Hermes Birkin or Louis Vuitton Speedy, Little Black Dress and more decorative accessories. When it comes to trendier pieces, I go to places like Zara and H&M and also incorporate vintage finds like colorful dresses and bohemian-esque embellished belts.  Shopping at different price points gives your wardrobe texture and personality.  You do not need to be in head to toe designer to look great.

This is just great fashion advice.  And am so with her on the look of iconic bags- classics paired up with trendier pieces.  But the reality is that, while it’s clearly worth the “investment”, you don’t have to pay the full $675-$750 for an authentic Louis Vuitton monogram Speedy!

Hot tip or Nothing New?

Sofia Coppola Francis Ford Coppola for Louis Vuitton

As we’ve known since back in April… there’s major buzz going around that Annie Lebovitz was down in Argentina shooting Sofia and her Francis Ford Coppola for the upcoming Core Values/ Journey’s Campaign for Louis Vuitton.

Well, at the Louis Vuitton blogger’s breakfast last Thursday, The Director of Advertising, Eric Lichtmess revealed that a “couple” would be featured in the next instillation of the Journey’s Campaign.

So the bloggers may have gotten a hot new tip- and there’s another couple up the pike (they already did an amazing spread on Andre Agassi and Steffi Graff).

Or… Sofia and Francis Ford are the “couple”.

Was Lichtmess just trying to make our bloggers feel “in the loop”, when he’s already dished out the real scoop to Elle Magazine, Marie Claire, WWD and other more mainstream media outlets over a month ago?

Hmm… Only time will tell.

Louis Vuitton cake
(Cake not authorized by Louis Vuitton nor served to the bloggers at the little get together…)

Full disclosure here: I’m totally jealous, would have loved to have been invited, etc. etc. But, I’m also of course happy to give my two cents on it.

So, Louis Vuitton invites about 15 fashion bloggers- Bag Snob, Fashion Indie, Nitrolicious, Fashion Tribes, Fab Sugar, Haute Concept, Get Kempt, Gala Darling to a little get together to answer the question, “How do we work with you?”

It’s soooo smart for LVHM to connect with these folks. I mean, they pay bloggers absolutely nothing- to write about what they (LVMH) happen to be selling. You can’t buy that kind of publicity.

Or can you? I’m just hoping that it takes more than a little face to face with LV Brass, a couple croissants & a coffee or two to get some of our favorite “independent” fashion bloggers to lose their objectivity.

I was disappointed in this comment in response to the meeting from one of our favorite bag bloggers, Bag Snob:

“While you may be tempted by eBay and other unauthorized outlets, the only safe bet to ensure the authenticity of your LV bag is to purchase at an LV boutique.”

;(

I mean, obviously another totally safe bet would be to buy a bag from www.eluxury.com, owned by LVMH.

And hey, there a ton of reputable consignment and resellers of Louis Vuitton both online and off. For sure, you have to be careful- there are thousands of ways to get scammed online. But, if you buy from a seller like us here at FASHIONPHILE, you really can be confident that #1) your bag is authentic and #2) if there are any problems whatsoever, we’ll make it right.

As we’ve been told, we’re “the best kept secret in Beverly Hills.” If you’re interested in an authentic vintage, limited edition or currently available authentic Louis Vuitton piece… you can not only pick that item up from us for sometimes hundreds of dollars below retail- but you can trust us!

Don’t drink the Koolaid!
