Which would you rather- Louis Vuitton or Chocolate Trunk?

chocolatetrunk

OK... I know- no brainer.  But for some of my mayjah chocoholic friends- this question might not be so easy!

Marie Claire posted some of their favorite luxury gifts for the holidays- and one was this $15,000 custom Italian leather trunk from renowned chocolatier MarieBelle.

For $15,000 you can get a fantastic vintage Louis Vuitton or Goyard trunk- in pretty great condition.   I'm just not that into straight chocolate.  A temptation for me would be a custom Louis Vuitton warming trunk made exclusively for transporting out of the oven chocolate chip cookies!

What do you think?

Marc sees nothing luxurious about traveling with a Trunk

Friday, May 8th, 2009

"I don't think there's anything practical about traveling with a trunk. Luxury travel is traveling with a toothbrush. That's it, end of story. The people who really live luxurious lives don't need to pack. They've got stuff wherever they go."  WWD

Looks like he practices what he preaches... remember the pics of Marc Jacobs with his fiance Lorenzo Martone at the Heliport at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.  Notice, not a trunk (or suitcase) in sight!

Louis Vuitton claims that trunks are all about motion, but we all know trunks today are all about decoration and organization- or based on the picture of Marc below- recreation?

Consignment sales up in down economy

It seems that everyone's taking about the sad state of the world economy... and about how even luxury brands are being hit.  But with all this talk, did you know that there's one market that is actually weathering the economic storm quite well?  The Secondary Market!!!

Notice the "Google News" titles above, "Bad Economy OK for Consignments," "Consignment Business Booming in Charlotte," "Secondhand Merchandise is Up in a Down Economy."

I mean, I know you've heard me say this before- but honestly... buying used is the "new" new!!!  Not only is it a green choice (reuse is a better use of our resources than even recycling!!!), but it's less painful on the pocketbook!

When money gets tight, a lot of folks are trying to figure out how to make some more cash.  One way to come up with it is to take a look around the house at any items of value that aren't being used.  Just post those things on eBay or Criagslist or  Fashionphile- and voilà ... easy money!

We see this everyday now here at Fashionphile!  We are able to not only able to help liquidate the capital from the virtual bank vaults that are some of our client's closets... but we're able to sell those bags to folks who used to buy full retail back when times were fat.  Everyone's looking for a bargain now.  So if the choice is buying no-name or even lower branded new bags, or scarcely worn pre-owned luxury handbags... the answer's an easy one!

So, go ahead.  Sell a bag.  Buy a bag.  Whatever, but just remember... used is the new new!

Quote of the day: Karl Lagerfeld on Luxury Bags

Love this Karl Lagerfeld quote about luxury handbags that I found in Dana Thomas's book, Deluxe, How Luxury Lost its Luster:

"[They] make your life more pleasant, make you dream, give you confidence, and show your neighbors you are doing well.  Everyone can afford a luxury handbag."

"Everyone can afford a luxury handbag."  This is especially true if you purchase said authentic luxury handbag, pre-owned and at a discount from www.fashionphile.com :)

I was interviewed by Lauren Sherman of Forbes for the article that she wrote called, "How to Avoid Online Auction Scams".  She gives goes over some of the risks of buying luxury goods online- and how to avoid them.

Of course, one of my favorite quotes:

"...if you love luxury goods and appreciate a decent discount, the auctioneer still offers great deals through formidable sellers like Davis. " :)

If you're interested in the article in Forbes today, take a look....

Louis Vuitton, “Bill Me Later”

Bill Me Later Louis Vuitton Eluxury Payments

Wow. Eluxury is now offering the "Bill Me Later" method of payment.

As in, buy any item on Elux that is valued at $250 or more (basically, practically any Louis Vuitton item) and you don't have to pay for 90 days. That's right... they send you a bill... and you don't have to pay a darned thing for 90 days.

I mean, it sounds like the sales pitch for a cheap furniture company, but it just might do the trick in this lagging economy. You can read more about the "Bill Me Later" service here.

Louis Vuitton moving into the Holy City…

Charleston Place Louis Vuitton

Well, you learn something new every day!  I always thought "the Holy City" was Jerusalem, but apparently Charleston, South Carolina has the same nickname!

Anyway... it looks like South Carolina will be getting it's first Louis Vuitton.  It won't be a full- stand alone boutique, but will be inside the Charleston Place: a luxury hotel alongside Gucci and St. John.

Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfeld Technophobes

No... not us! As our name implies... we here at FASHIONPHILE love fashion . But we also have embraced our inner-techno-nerd!

Apparently, a bunch of top Fashion designers & industry execs- including Karl Lagerfeld, LVMH CEO Yves Carcelle, Balenciaga's Nicolas Ghesquiere, Miucca Prada and even our own Marc Jacobs, don't frequent the "internets" much. In fact, some don't use a computer at all, they have assistants syncing their I-Pods, have their email printed out for them and respond with hand written notes. Check out the interesting article from NY Magazine!

Marc's been getting with the program and has apparently even found a "relationship" online! For entertainment, he's even recently been commenting on blogs that reference him!

Louis Vuitton: Coming out of the Closet!

Eva Longoria Louis Vuitton Closet

OK, so we're all used to seeing the "Cribs" shot inside celebrity closets- where you regularly take a peek at strategically, and asthetically pleasingly displayed Louis Vuitton pieces (see the Eva Longoria example above- feet delicately balancing on what appears to be an epi hatbox & multicolore hard case up above on a shelf!)

But today vintage and new Louis Vuitton pieces are often found tastefully decorating all kinds of rooms...

You may remember this fantastic picture of "the Louis Vuitton Don", Kanye West's office from Harper's Bazaar.

(from WWJD: Aaron R. Thomas blog)

I've blogged before about the trunk in Tommy Hilfiger's living room...

but I really like what Aaron Thomas did with acrylic for LVMH as covers for trunks that were used for their pre-Golden Globes Party (one that happened, last year- pre-strike!) The pic above is from Aaron's blog- and these not only make the trunk look fab and modern- but you can set your drink on your $20,000 trunk without worry!

Louis Vuitton Framed Scarf
(from In LVoe with Louis Vuitton blog)

Finally, I found this great picture from F~A~L~B's blog... He's framed a Louis Vuitton scarf and has it hanging in his guest powder room! I think this is a great idea- many Louis Vuitton scarves are little works of art. It's nice to see them displayed. This could work in other rooms of the house as well, and I'd love to see it done with some vintage pieces!

I'll leave it to you to comment on the following custom bathroom addition!

Louis Vuitton Vintage trunks

Well, here we are! What do you think?

It's moving day! Yahoo!!!

I've been wanting to move my blog to "my place" for a while now... and just finally convinced Jesse (my brother and our web & trunk guy- you may have seen him in our Evolution of Beauty- Louis Vuitton Trunk Style video!) to do it!!!  He's an industrial designer and wears so many hats around here!!!

So, I hope you'll sit back, relax and enjoy yourself while you're here. If you have anything to add, please let me know! I love tips- so if you have anything juicy or interesting Louis Vuitton or luxury purse related- I'd love to blog about it (and give you credit of course!)

Anyway, if you:

  1. Love Louis Vuitton like we do-
  2. or just fabulous bags in general...
  3. Are interested in who's wearing what and where they're wearing it-
  4. ... and don't mind a bargain on authentic pre-owned Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Balenciaga, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Hermes (... and so on, you get the idea),

then you've come to the right place!!!Take a look around and don't mind the dust!
