Do you remember reading that?
I mean, this one’s right on the heels of Louis Vuitton’s Rei Kawakubo/CDG collaboration, as well as the announcement of the mash-up they’re doing with shoes & Kanye West.
But it looks like Sofia Coppola will be their latest partner. WWD is reporting that Louis Vuitton is working with Sofia on a line of shoes and bags. Her stuff will launch in Japan, but will be available worldwide.
There’s no doubt that Marc Jacobs loves her. She’s famously regarded as his muse. I love this Marc Jacobs quote about her:
“She is young and sweet and beautiful… the epitome of this girl I fantasize of.”
We’ll see.

I love this little film from Ogilvy. It’s a great visual of all of the LVMH brands (Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Celine, Donna Karan, Emilio Pucci, Givenchy, Kenzo, Loewe, Marc Jacobs to name a few!)But I was just noticing that we just happen to be currently selling authentic pre-owned versions of almost all of the Louis Vuitton pieces that they spotlight in the film. For example: the Louis Vuitton Vernis Heart
The Manhattan PM that Catherine Deneuve’s holding at the train station.
And the amazing Empreinte Diamond Ring near the end.
I love that we have some of their favorites- and for a relative bargain!

I thought I’d grown out of the whole Teddy Bear thing. But I guess I’m regressing!
So, that’s my 2 year old gleefully clutching her teddy- with a little more enthusiasm about carrying her special bear than the serene Matthew Goode playing Sebastian Flyte in the new film adaptation of Bridehead’s Revisited coming out this October …
Which reminded me of Marc Jacob’s comments at the 2005 Men’s Spring show. Remember? He was totally inspired by the old British series and you could see it in not only the clothes (& PJs!) but teddies, teddies everywhere!

And remember all the Teddy Bear pins? I actually was just flicking through the slideshow at Style.com and played a little “Where’s Waldo” game with my 2 year old and the Teddy Bear pins. Can you find them?

Anyway. So new Brideshead Revisited, new cool luxury bears! I’m sure you saw the amazing Steiff X Karl Lagerfeld bear! It was just released only days ago $1500 from Neiman Marcus- sold out and backlisted already. There were only to be 2500 made, so if you don’t have yours already, I can’t imagine the price they’ll fetch when they turn up on eBay. (And they will turn up on eBay). ((No, we don’t have one! Unless you want us to help you sell yours
))

Love this quote from Karl to W Magazine:
“Nothing scares me more than people with some doll collection. Frightening… Maybe I had one; I don’t remember. I never played with anything like toys. I wanted to be grown-up.”

Which reminded me of the most expensive Teddy Bear ever sold. Also a Steiff… styled by Louis Vuitton that sold on auction at Christie’s for the M.A.P. charity- and went for a lot more than $1500. Korean (apparent serious teddy bear lover- arctophiles they’re called!), Jessie Kim bought it for more than $190,000 at Christie’s “Teddies de l’An 2000″ auction in Monaco in 1994! It’s on display at his Teddy Bear Museum in Korea today!

So what do you think? Do you need a Luxe Teddy?

Don’t miss this new Marc Jacobs profile in The Observer in anticipation of Fashion Week. It’s full of goodies- old and new.
Love this quote from Lorraine Candy, Elle’s editor-in-chief:
“He’s a predictor, like Karl Lagerfeld was. And there’s a lovely feel to his designs. I’ll sit in the front row of other designers’ shows and see models walking towards me in these odd shoes with their breasts hanging out, and I wonder whether they even like the women they’re designing for. But you can tell that he respects them.”
IMO- MJ doesn’t predict the future, he informs it.

OK, I made this image back when the Comme des Garcons X Louis Vuitton collaboration was first announced… and just never found a good place to put it (not that it really relates here- but I just can’t help myself any longer!). I still LOL whenever I think of it! I mean, tell me this isn’t how the Pixar animators came up with one of my all time favorite characters ever, the fabulous matriarch of all things fashion, Ms. Edna Mode? A little Rei Kawakubo… a little Edith Head… and vuala, Edna Mode!
Anyway, can’t get enough of the little love fest going on between Marc Jacobs and Rei in anticipation of the debut of the collaboration next Wednesday!
MJ on Rei:
“I admire and worship her and it’s the kind of thing that I think is so wonderful to do at Vuitton, where it’s such an iconic brand and that monogram and everything and, again, I’ve said all this before, but it’s so wonderful to have someone so outside of that thing take their look at it, their approach to it.”
Rei on Louis:
“Due to our clever coordination, I anticipate that the wall between us will disappear. . . Funnily enough, I have never actually bought anything [at Vuitton], but I probably will buy a party bag next week. The best thing about such one-off events is the chance to arrive at something new from the meeting together of two different spirits.”
Can’t wait to see more!

Kanye just posted this little piece of art by Meryl Smith- a doggie bag, appropriated with the LV monogram… and I’ve gotta say it. Regardless of the major yuck factor for this piece in particular, I’m so over the whole concept.
I mean, I get it. Artists who want to make a statement “borrow” the LV marks because they are powerful and get noticed. But it’s just lazy. It’s been done to death. (Think Nadia Plesner’s Darfur shirt, Wim Delvoye’s LV tatoo’d pigs, Peter Gronquist’s monogram Electric Chair (and chainsaw, glocks, artillary shells & Gazelle? of all things- etc. etc).

And I don’t know about you… but I think Louis Vuitton/ Marc Jacobs gets this. So much so that maybe that’s part of the reason they brought Richard Prince on board. You know, Richard Prince… “the Man who invented Appropriation”.

What do you think?

OK… so we’re all waiting for the (Rei Kawakubo) Comme des Garcons X Louis Vuitton collaboration, right? Six bags. Two based on re-issues… two based on icons, and two at Rei’s pleasure.
And then WWD Japan comes up with the little preview above. And I’m just wondering about a few things.
#1. The Speedy in the picture is the Mini Speedy, Sac HL. It’s a small bag. No, it’s a super tiny bag. We once had one of these returned to us back in the day, because she thought it was small, not “miniature”. Here’s a picture:

So I’m wondering how the heck all those straps work? Do they move independent of each other? Would they fit on a teeny, tiny, miniature Speedy? I mean, there’s a possibility that the monogram canvas has been super-sized, in which case this is really a Speedy 25 with a huge monogram? Does not look like it to me.
#2. The Amazone and Papillon don’t look like they’ve changed at all. OK, so the Pap has some super cute Teddy Bear charms dangling from the strap, but they look removeable, like key rings. I don’t see anything variances between the Amazone above and Louis Vuitton’s vintage Amazone. Here’s a picture (thanks to Jennifer for letting me us it!)

#3. The last bag looks like a skinny Louis Vuitton Musette Tango with a long Looping style strap. Hmm… not feeling it.

So anyway, is it possible that the WWD pictures are hypothetical? Like some inhouse graphic desigher’s photoshop fun illustrating the collaboration? Or are these for sure, Rei’s designs?
I guess only time will tell! What do you think?

It isn’t coming up on the US site yet, but you can take a sneak peek on Louis Vuitton Japan.
I really do love that Louis Vuitton is getting back to what made it a great company- the focus on travel- the “Journey”.
This is the most recent installment of Louis Vuitton’s Core Values Campaign. LV/Marc Jacobs have pulled together a Motley Crew for these spots. We’ve been graced with learning more from Louis Vuitton on the Journey’s of Keith Richards, Steffi Graf, and Andre Agassi so far, are Sofia and Francis Ford Coppola.

(Sofia in the Louis Vuitton Stephen Sprouse leopard print scarf)
Well, I guess this confirms the rumor.
The Times Online Fashion Department asked Sophia why she agreed to do the Annie Leobovitz X Louis Vuitton Core Values- Journeys ad spot with her father Francis Ford Coppola:
I liked the ad Annie shot with Keith Richards. It was flattering to be asked. Plus I’ve known Marc Jacobs since I was 18. We had mutual friends and started hanging out together. I remember asking my mom to take me to see Perry Ellis when he was designing there. I still have a box of clothes from that grunge collection somewhere. It’s great to work with Annie - she did a good portfolio on the set of Marie Antoinette. She just selects one picture and then shows it to you. But I think that’s good. My dad and I were both like, yeah, whatever you want, this is your shoot. On your own set you want it exactly your own way, but we can get with someone else’s vision too.
and:
Obviously I love Marc Jacobs and Acne jeans which I wear all the time. Today I’m wearing a little knitted dress from See by Chloé, flat wedges from Louboutin. Really I should be wearing Vuitton, but I’m actually not that into status, although I have a little LV duffle bag that I travel with.
