4 series bags may have the Chanel CC logo under the CHANEL, as shown here (*see farther below for the fake version of this with the CC's above the Chanel and the CC's are not in a circle) |
3 series backpack. Circled "Made In" on Same Leather tag. This style is an correct exception to the rule of "Chanel" being on the opposite side from the "Made In" for 0 to 5 Series bags.
|
5-Series Back without the gold embossing. Also acceptable. |

| Proper Alignment of "CHANEL" over "Made In Italy" | Proper Alignment of "CHANEL" over "Made In France" |
“Made in France” is not aligned properly under “Chanel”
|
* CC not circled and above; should not say Paris
|
This metal with border is not correct |
Zig-Zag Edges, CC's wrong
|
Never made in Paris (should be France or Italy) |
This is subtle, but the font is shorter and wider than it should be
|
The letters are too tall and close together The lettering is also crooked (slanting upward to the right) |
Not enough space between the left hand stitching and the "C" in "Chanel"
|
There are several types of authentic zipper pulls and zippers. They differ depending on year, where they are located on the bag, and on the style of the bag. You will see the following Letter/Brands on zippers on authentic Chanel Bags: Lampo (Most common, usually on large exterior zippers),YKK, EP, Opti-OMC, DMC, CCC |
These large inside pocket zippers wil have "Chanel" on one side and the CC logo on the other. |
Opposite side of a Zipper pull like the one on the left. |
EP will be in Reissue bags, as well as a few other styles |
These 3-circle pulls are in older bags only |
Opti OMC |

Chanel bags have been made with a very wide variety of materials and styles. I’m not sure I can pin down any rules that apply to all Chanel bags other than the fact that the lining should always fit properly in the bag and not have any bunching when the bag is opened fully.
Below are several examples of different authentic Chanel linings

Many Chanel bags are quilted. The symmetry and quality of this quilting is a strong indication of authenticity. Quilting should be perfectly symetrical squares or diamonds -- the sides of each square or diamond should all be equal in length. The lines of the quilting will line up exactly over pocket seems and flaps. (The alignment over flaps may be difficult to discern in photos because flaps may not have been sitting perfectly straight when the photo was taken.).
| Quilting alignment should also match up on the front and the back of a bag. In other words, if there is a ½ diamond on one edge of the bag, there should be a ½ diamond in that same area on the back side edge as well. | |

| The quilting pattern may not line up with the stitching pattern along the bottom and sides of classic style bags. As you can see, the stitching on the base of the authentic bags in the photos below do not line up with the lines of the stitching on the front of the bag. | |
