The House of Fendi began as a small leather goods shop in Rome’s Via del Plebiscito in the year 1925. In 1946, the founders of Fendi, husband and wife Edoardo and Adele Fendi, handed off the company to their five daughters, who invigorated the brand with their youthful and exuberant energy and their firsthand experience with women’s postwar fashion. German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld joined Fendi in 1965 as the creative director of their fur line and designer of the brand’s ready-to-wear collection for women. In 1994, Silvia Venturini Fendi, granddaughter of Edoardo and Adele, joined as the company’s creative director for their menswear line. In 2001, Fendi became a member of the LVMH group, a French luxury goods conglomerate that encompasses a number of prestigious brands around the world. This membership is still in place to this day, and Fendi remains an internationally known luxury fashion brand. In more recent years, Fendi has become instrumental in the restoration of Rome’s iconic Trevi Fountain, which dates back to the 18th century. One of the most famous fountains in the world, the Trevi Fountain is a notable part of Rome’s history. As such, Fendi has invested over $2.7 million dollars to restore it. In an interview with Bloomberg Business, Fendi CEO Pietro Beccari explained the impetus for the company’s philanthropic gesture: “It’s about tying us with a city that makes millions of people dream.” The Fendi of today is an internationally acclaimed fashion house with over 160 found in 25 countries. Fendi handbags have been seen draped over the arm of celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Kendall Jenner, Rita Ora, and Naomi Campbell. The brand is also known for its ready-to-wear and fur collections as well as its leather handbags, shoes, fragrances, eyewear, watches, and other accessories. One of their best-known creations is the Fendi Baguette bag; others include Fendi’s 2Jours leather tote, the Fendi Peekaboo handbag, and the Fendi Pequin bag.
